Living in St Day I was about 5 years old but I do remember things. Villages thought airoplanes were coming and there was great panic at the time, however it turned out to be a flock of crows.
There was a man from St Day who died on board a submarine when it was sunk. It was awful to think he couldn't get out.
They used to sell water for a penny a pail from a horse drawn water butt or you had to go to Vogue Hill and carry it yourself from the chute.
Coupons on the back of the ration book would buy a gallon (this is the correct measurement) of potatoes at the fruit shop in the centre of St Day.
