I was ten years old, when we heard that we were at War with Germany. It stopped our Game of rounders for at least five minutes.
We used the gates of 1, 3, 4, & 2 as the four touch points in our Game. Thats all I remember of our first day at War.
The last Day of my War I remember equally well, we were at a Scout Camp in Shropham,
We didn`t hear that the War was over until the next day.
When the War ended in Europe, we knew straight away and had a terrific time, we somehow latched onto several United States Service Men who had somehow or other come into possesion of metal boxes of Flares which they fired off one every few minutes. We followed them around for Hours, all around our estate at Earlham, then onto the Larkman Lane Estate, Motum Rd, Dereham Rd& into the City to join the massive crowds gathered around the City Hall. Somehow we finished up on Mousehold Heath to look at all the coty lights shining for the first time in six years. What memories they are.
