I can remember the A24 between Dorking and
Leatherhead which was commandeered by the British Army, being used as a vehicle Depot with workshops and troops accommodation. Ammunition dumps at Broadmoor, Abinger Common being used as an open air Ammunition Dump. Roads around Newdigate being used as storage for Bombs, under trees! All within 30 miles of London Bridge. Apart from seeing Aircraft and Troop movements we escaped the attacks. I can also remember the family goingto pick whittle berries and being told off. They questioned why we were there.
