Lockerbie 1944 I'm Ralph Butters- 3rd from right, front row aged 19
August 1944.
We sailed from Tilbury Docks headed for Normandy. It was a fine crossing. we drove up the beaches, it must have been hell on D-Day.
We stayed a few days before we moved on until we ended in Belgium. Myself and others were sent to the town alone.Whilst there I became friendly with a family until the war ended in Europe.
I lost contact until September 2004 when I made a return visit and the rest of the storyis recorded ina newspaper article. I returned again in May 2005 and met Janine again after 60 years, I was treated like a v.i.p.
