Please,don't leave just yet dear friends
you are still, much needed here
stay a while
and shine your warm and kindly light
upon us
share with us some more,
the gifts of your knowledge of years,
and stir our spirits with your cheer.
For when in time
you go on from this place
we shall not know your like again
and we that must remain;
your children and your childrens'children
shall be made much poorer for your loss
And with the dimming of that light
and greying shade that grows
when you are here no longer
only then shall we truly know your loss
and in that moment see
how brilliant shines the beacon still
that was your generation's sacrifice
