I was a young woman, working as a nurse in Sheffield. We were allowed one day a week off, and on one free evening I decided to go to the theatre. I sat down and noticed there were two soldiers behind me looking very smart in their in uniform. We talked together after the film and they offered to walk me home. I learnt they were stationed in Sheffield, training for the airforce. I walked home with them but at the time, it was very dark due to the blackout. None of the lampposts were on and to my alarm, I walked right into one!
The next day one of the soldiers phoned me but I asked if he could give me the number of his friend instead. I phoned his friend, Tom, and later ended up marrying him!
