We were evacuated from Naples to Santa Maria A Vico which was a village near Cancello. This was a main town where all the railways met from all the country and was a dangerous area. The USA bombed Cancello as it was strategic. In the village we were restricted to what we could get from the farmers. They would swap goods for bedsheets, saucepans — anything useful. They didn’t want money as it was useless. My mum and dad were with me.

The flats we were living in were bombed in Naples. My father was in the airforce — after 18 months we returned to Naples and I went back to school.
