I was conscripted into the service in 1941 and after weeks of training I WAS transferred to liverpool. the branch I was sent to was in darby house a large unit of the W.A.A.F. i WAS Trained as a teletype operator our roll was to protect the american troop ships in the north atlantic we were billetted in a girls school in hyatt we were transferred by bus to the darby house. one of the operations was done by the navy who had large maps from floor to ceiling and this is where the staff plotted the ships there was ladders on rollers from floor to ceiling and I will never forget the day a operatpor was at the top of the ladder and a young man did not knor she was on the ladder and puched it of course the girl was killed. that was when I knew what it was all about.The day after D.day the officer in charge asked for volunteers to go the the railway station to help with the wounded coming from France what a shock it was to see so many wounded I will never forget it we were bombed very heavy in liverpool.the germans knew about our location but did not know we were not in the building but rather in the basement.needles to say my parents in scotland had a very hard time accepting my being their. Imade a lot of good friends while in the service but lost touch with them after the war I married an american and moved here to Maryland in the USA in 1945 and have tried many times to get in touch with someone but thought we were just forgotten about.My Sgt while in liverpool was S
