I have never forgotten that during the war when I was 17 or 18 years old, living in Sydenham, London I went to a cinema in Lewisham to see Glenn Miller in "Orchestra Wives". An air raid warning interrupted the performance and as I left the cinema I remember glass flying everywhere and a long walk to the nearest shelter.
After the 'all-clear', I managed to catch a bus as far as Catford, but then it was a very long walk home. I have still not yet managed to see the end of "Orchestra Wives"!.
In 1944, when I was at a 'prom' concert, the V1 rockets flew into London for the first time. Since no one realised what they were, the concert continued.
