James Gomer Mumford, now aged 93, was on night duty as an Armourer when the lone Lancaster bomber he expected landed . He rode out to the plane on his bicycle and arrived just as the crew were descending the ladder. The were elated having brought back film of the Tirpitz being sunk. Dad was first to hear the news. The following evening the film was shown on the base.
He also serviced S-for-Sugar, one of the few surviving Lancasters. Sadly he was on leave the day the plane was photographed to celebrate completing 100 trips. He does however have a photograph of that occasion.
