My dear Phyll,

Please excuse me for the long elapse of time before writing to you. I can safely say that neither of us are very assiduous correspondents. I think it is an inherent family trait common to us all.

As you see by the address, the land of the ‘chosen race’ is my home for the time being. It is really quite pleasant here, and I must say a vast improvement on Egypt, which in my opinion was the very end. To think that Englishmen have died to keep Egypt from the Egyptians is unbelievable. There are two classes in Egypt, the very rich and the very poor, the middle class is practically non existent. I do not want to bore you with my impression of Egypt, which could quite easily take up many pages.

How are the family getting along Phyl: keeping you busy I bet? I should think that David will be old enough to appreciate a day at Lords by the time I get home. Mother tells me that you found it quite a change to come up to London for a short time. Surely it must have been the first break away from Hersley you have had since the war started?

As for myself, well I can scarcely have cause to grumble, as I am in the fortunate position of being my own C.O. and at the same time getting in quite an amount of flying. I still have hopes of getting out to Burma sometime before the Japanese War finishes. It will not be through lack of trying if I do not succeed in doing so.

By the way Phyl, how is the youngest addition to the family? When I saw you prior to coming out here, you were a little worried about her.

I should love to hear from you Phyl when you have a few moments to spare. If I finish up this letter in a hurry I will just catch the outgoing post so forgive me for closing rather abruptly.

Give my regards to Ken.

Will be dropping you another few lines next week.

All my love
Your Affectionate Brother,

Joe.
