I was working in the Land Army before moving to Chadwell Heath when I got married. There I got a job in a factory that made Long Range Jettison Tanks for the aircraft, including the Lockeed Lightning.

I married max in March 1943. It was quite an austere wedding, given the circumstances and everything. I was still getting congratulations telegrams two weeks later. It was amongst these that the telegram came to say he was Missing in Action. He had flown off on the Tuesday evening, and it wasn鈥檛 until about eight o鈥檆lock on the Friday evening that they found him. Although we had only been married two weeks, I had a feeling that they would find him.

[Max's story can also be read on the Peoples War site. Look for story A3054449]
