My father was born on the island. His father was Joe Christian who was well known on the island as a tenor singer. He even sang for the 大象传媒 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. When he sang on the island my mother would accompany him. He had a sister called Vorry (which is Manx for Mary). She was a Wren during the war, based in Ireland. His mother was called Nellie Isabel. Her father was the merchant of Douglas (John Crellien.)
They lived in the family home which was called Jamf. (My grandmother would never tell us what it stood for - but we liked to think it meant Joe and me forever. When my father moved in he said it meant Juan and Muriel forever, and when I move there with my husband it will stand for John and me forever. One of my sons, Juan, would like to live there one day. He will call it Juan and me forever - where the me will be his wife.)
Father went to Patrick Primary School and then when he got older he cycled to St Johns to get the train to Douglas High School. He got his matriculation as war broke out. He was called up and went into the RAF. (Indeed he was
