As 83 years old, I feel that our generation is a healthy and tough one because of the diet we had during the war. But it was a bit meagre, and my father decided to buy a pig! So, all the neighbours helped by saving their spare foods bits and we gathered it all and fed the pig. This way by this time he decided to buy another one. So they would get… these two pigs and they were enormous. Well, when one of them was killed, of course we weren’t allowed to sell the pig meat at all, we could give it away but we weren’t allowed to sell it. When this one was killed, my father got the whole blood... He made sausages, he made … we made sausages and we black puddings. Well, we had a big boll of blood of course to make the black puddings. … was a terrific explosion on a… in the field … and the vibration — we were all right — but the vibration sent all this boll of blood all over the living room was. It looked as if there’s been a massacre. Well, that was hilarious. When all the pigs were sorted, cut up and everything, all the neighbours would come in and my mother would cook all the bits and we would to have an enormous feast! And of course my father made hams, it was excellent and it did help our diet, you know, it helped us that way…
