The great pleasure of the blackout was to take Rags*,our dog, for a walk on a windy moonlit night with flying clouds. The sky was brilliant — white clouds, black space, the moon and innumerable stars. Nothing like it now.

*Jack Russell. My grandfather as a boy, knew Parson Jack Russell who was the vicar of Swinbridge near Barnstaple.
