Memories of a six year old in 1943.

Getting out of bed in a cold bedroom.
Careful, don't miss the mat and step on the lino!
Cod live oil and malt from a big spoon before running off to school.
I'm glad I sat near the open fire
To toast my toes as I chanted the alphabet and my times tables.
Drill in the yard.
Home for lunch.
Listening to Children's Hour at 5 o'clock.
Dim lights and blackout in winter.
Long walks in summer.
Mum washing in the Ewbank and turning the mangle.
Brushing the carpets and cooking in a side oven.
There were pigs and hens at the bottom of the garden which grew all our vegetables.
Dad rode to work on his bycycle
and we went to Sunday School twice on sundays.
