There were some changes in our small town.
The Royal Engineers had a Nissan hut in Queen’s Avenue, near the Fire Station. There were allotments all around there. A major built a bungalow where Waverley House is now — it’s said that the building materials came from the Depot!

At the rear of the Ashton Club there was a copper for cooking meals for the Royal Engineers.

Near the Bucknell Road/Rowan Road allotments there was an Army Service Corps camp.
