Another school grapevine message was "There's an unexploded bomb at Medina Avenue"(this was about half a mile away). So someone said "Let's go and have a look". And we went, about half a dozen of us. At the end of Medina Avenue we found a rather large hole with a rough barrier around it, and one Sapper standing by, who merely looked at us and grinned. We all looked down the hole, which was about 20 feet deep, and at the bottom was another Sapper leaning against what looked like a grey dustbin with a red cone at one end. This, apparently, was the bomb, possibly from a Stuka. Nobody said "Go Away" but having seen it, we went.It appears they took it away and blew it up somewhere in the middle of the Island. The windows shook a bit.
