My last 18 months in the army were spent in the Sinals detachment at a base at Panagar. My duties were to maintain a teleprinter link with Calcutta.
There were only 7 British persons manning the signals office ,myself,. two bods deciphering coded messages, one lineman one bod in charge of redio messagse and two persons manning the Signal Office.
The base had many units . There were Service Corps, Movement detatchment unit, Ordinence unit, a further signals unit,a unit in charge of the ammuntion dump at the base . The rest of the personel were Indian other ranks and members of the
Indian WACI, these latter were the same as British A.T.S.the difference was that the WACI's were all Ghurka ladies who worked in the Signal office.
The base had a cinema, tennis courts ,a canteen and a swimming pool, all theses facilities were in the main for British other ranks.
I thought that it would be quite interesting to have a programme showing what has happened to the base area.
I can be contacted by my E Mail which is
