My Nann often relayed this story to me when I was a young child so I am unsure of the details but this is how I remember it. I write it as she said it:
I was in the kitchen when the air raid sirens went off, we had become so used to them by then I often ignored it. So I carried on with my usual activities, I think I had some flour on the kitchen table, when I looked out of the window and saw a man ducking into a door way. It looked strange, my curiousity awakened I went to the front door and opened it to see the most extrodinary sight of my life.
Before me,for what seemed like a long length of time but could only of been seconds was the cockpit of a german plane which had crashed and was now sliding through the street. I looked straight at the german pilots, their machine guns trained on me but, thank God, no shot was fired. We locked eyes myself and the enemy for a fleeting moment, I saw their youthful faces and terror, before they finally crashed to their deaths.
This picture has stayed with me, I wonder does anyone else have a recollection of a german plane coming down in beaconsfield, buckinghamshire in this way during the second world war. I would love to know more details.
