This story was submitted to the Peoples War site by Ruth Preston remembers one her day her and brother George Preston went to St Margaret’s school and they took the older children and George was taken with them. The next day the younger one were told to come back they were then told that they couldn’t be sent were the older children had been sent, when her mother asked where they had sent she was told they couldn’t be told because of security reasons, when she then insisted she was told he was in the Chester area. One of their neighbours then asked what she would do she then, she said was going to Chester to find him. So the neighbour then asked if she could come with her so then Ruth and the neighbours little girl were taken to her aunties while her mum and neighbour went to look in Chester. They looked everywhere getting on buses and walked everywhere then finally one they were sitting on the bus when her mum spotted a St Margaret’s uniform (which was a little black cap with a little white spot on the top and a black uniform with St Margaret’s daisy on the side) and ordered the driver to stop the bus and that was then, that they found George in Preston. Then the mother hand to go back to Liverpool to collect Ruth and then had to ask permission for George to leave St Margaret’s which all took about six months.
