We lived in an ordinary road in Stratford just ordinary people and the evacues came and this little lad about the youngest of the whole group came from Birmingham. He was put with this lady she had a daughter of about ten or eleven and the usual thing with us kids at suppertime was you had a glass of milk and a biscuit. When this lad was asked what he wanted for supper he said "Beer and Chips" which to us ooh you did'nt give children beer.
