I worked at ford Airo factory at Davyhulme where the Trafford Centre is now. I was a working engineer. There were 22,000 people making Merlin Spitefire engines for Rolls Royce.
I was engineering in Coventry making Hercules engines for the bomber planes. I was a night worker and lived north of Coventry and worked south of Coventry. I had to go through the city centre to work.
I was on a motor bike travelling through London when we got an air raid. I went down an air raid shelter for the night and in the morning at 6.30pm I heard one plane coming over and a bomb was dropped. My friend was killed out right and I was shot and I am still suffering from the effects now at the age of 91yrs.
After that I went back and stayed with my mother. I got married in 1944 and had two children.
