Living in Feltham, we had German Planes flying over most nights and one bomb dropped in the next road and flattened four houses. All the windows were shattered and nearby houses caught fire.
We had two shelters, one outside, which was called the Anderson and one inside, which was used as the kitchen table until the sirens went off. During the later part of the war, I went to an open-air school. On one particular occasion a Doodlebug, flew overhead. As long as you could hear the noise it made you knew you were safe, but as soon as it fell silent, you hoped and prayed that it didn鈥檛 land near you.
