This is how the story goes .......
It was morning and my mother was at home in Boston , near Liquorpond Street . My two older sisters were just infants . My father was away in the RAF .
My uncle , who was not yet old enough for conscription , was working near the London Road pumping station , across the river from the docks .
An air raid was sounded - and some bombs fell at the top end of Liquorpond Street near where the new road has been subsequently constructed .He heard the siren and the bombs - and knowing that his sister was living in the direction of the bursting bombs he was most concerned . His concern was increased by the knowledge that she was alone with two babies . He decided to leave the work site and run down to see if my mother was ok . The foreman forebad this course of events and threatened him with instant dismissal if he left the site . However , my uncle decided his sister's safety was of greater importance and set off . Fortunately all was well - apart for him ! He was given the sack !
