I workes in a knitwear factory called Summerland during the war
We heard rumours that the germans may want to deport the younger workers to Germany.German officers would often come into the factory and make sure we were all busy. The owner of the factory would deliberately employ as many young people as possible to save us from being deported. We earned fifteen shilings a week.
