I married my late husband in 1938, just before he was mobilised at the time of the Munich crisis. He was a Battery Sergeant Major with the City of London Yeomanary - 1sr Armoured Division - was left behind in France after Dunkirk as part of the rearguard defence, and finally found his own way across to Brest some weeks later.

In 1942 he was captured at Tobruk and spent the next few years in POW camps in Italy and Germany, finally returning to England in May 1945 to meet his 3陆 year old daughter for the first time.
