I remember going on the buses and having to use a torch as it was pitch black. I remember waking up on the cellar steps and the aeroplanes going over to Sheffield. And the warden knocked on the window because we were supposed to be in blackout, but my mum had left the curtain open.
There were no bananas, and everyone was swapping their cheese. I remember growing lots of rows of vegetables in the garden.
we used to have to make jelly with concentrated orange juice and set it outside because there were no fridges.
The school got extra clothing material, and because I had larger feet got extra coupons.
I remember evacuees in the school yard and if somebody wanted one they used to pick out, it was terrible.
