In 1939 when Rosemary was about 6 months old her father, William, was sent to India with the Royal Air Force.
To keep William's name alive for Rosemary her mother would keep on saying "Your Daddy's in India."
Rosemary's mother kept the tool shed in the garden as "Daddy's shed," a place that no other man could use while William was away.
When Rosemary was almost 5 a man in uniform arrived back at the house. Rosemary could not remember ever having seen this stranger. The man went to the tool shed in the garden.
Rosemary ran after him and said "You can't go in there it's my Daddy's shed." The man replied "I am your Daddy!"
Rosemary was so confused she ran back to her mother. Suddenly Daddy was home.
Rosemary's father never pushed himself on her, but allowed her to come round to the new person in her life. They developed a wonderful, loving relationship and he spent time with her teaching her important things like how to ride her first bicycle.
