In 1940 aged 3 years I was evacuated with my sister aged 2 years to Cumberland-now called Cumbria. We were sent to Sellar Hall, Sellarfield, a nursery for young evacuees I stayed there until I was 5 years old then billeted out to a family near Calder Bridge who I stayed with until the end of the war. My sister stayed at Sellar Hall until they started to build the Atomic Weapons establishment at Sellarfield, then she was moved to Stroud in Gloucester.
I do recall my sister and I being very unhappy at Sellar Hall, but I was happy and loved with the family I was billeted with, and I still keep in touch with the daughter.
I hated living in London after the war my family of six siblings were strangers to each other and never hit it off.
I became a country girl, and still am.
