My dad, who unfortunately died in 1972 aged 57, wrote to my mum "had a little accident but not to worry - I fell in the pond outside the back door". But, the truth was, he was on his way to Arnhem in one of the many gliders and they went down in the Channel on the way over. At least I had my dad for another 30 years almost!! Thank goodness.
In an old army photo I have, he is wearing a beret. Unfortunately, I cannot tell the colour or the badge.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in WW2: without you we may well have been living very different lives. God Bless you all.
