My dad was quite reluctant to tell me too much detail when asked "what did you do in the war dad?"
I feel I must record here just a few details of the part played by a soldier of the king who, with many others, played his part in the eventual victory over tyranny.
Three years back and forth through North Africa and in Tunisia before heading to Italy and a landing at a place called Anzio was the fore-runner to many more battles ahead as Rome was reached.
My father finished the war in northern Germany before returning home to a bomb torn Greenwich, London.
He died in 1978 aged 60.
This article is dedicated to his memory and those who were not so lucky. His name is not necessary here, (I know it) - he was my dear dad , and above all a kind and gentle man.
