I was born in 1944 in Birchington during a bombing raid. Andrew Davis, the conductor was born at the same time a few miles away. We lived with my grandparents and my mum was a children's nurse working right up until I was born.
When the first doodlebug came over, my mother hid under the railway bridge with a neighbour's child and me until the all clear went. When the all clear sounded everybody was out on the street trying to find her because she hadn't turned up in the shelter.
She took it all in her stride; I don't think I would have been so calm!
