When the war started. I passed the 11 plus and went to Wallsend Secondary school, On the Wednesday the 6th I had to go to the station to be Evacuated with approximateley 200 - 250 other school Friends.
I went to Alnwick, we had to stand in lines like sheep waiting to be picked,my friend and I were taken into a small office where we had to give ower details to the ladie in charge.
My friends name was Caroline Jensen of Rosehill in Walsend.
we were taken by car ti the edge of the moor ( where someimes we would get snowed in so we had to be brought further into town so we could be nearer the school.
My house in Seventh Street Palersmers buildings did not have Electicity or hot water, the place where I was Evacuated to was a very large house with five bedrooms a large lounge, big gardens a Maid.
They had a daugter called Alice Blagburn and two boys one called Neil and Ian, they were very nice people.
The school was very different to the one at home, in the morning you went to school for your lessons but then in the afternoon e went to church halls.
The childern from Alnwick did the reverse they went to Church halls in the morning and school in the afternoon. The reason for this was their was a hugh incease in the numbers of Children so we could't attend the school together.
We would come home for the school holidays, which put us back into danger as there was still bombing going on and made a total shambles ot of the reason for evacuation
