As an evacuee I was sent to this village green in Swadlingcote. We all came from three schools and there here hundreds of children. Gradually the village came out picking the children in the green that they wanted to take home as an evacuee. Me and this other boy were the last two left, when eventually this WRVS lady came up to us and said she's picked us both at the very beginning to go to the village tailors, so we went there. We just wish she had told us at the beginning so we wouldn't have got so upset about being left behind and unwanted.

Once time when we were staying with the tailor we were sitting in the conservatory and we could see Coventry being bombed. They unloaded a landmine and it took out a pottery works. The son of the pottery works was opening up at 4 in the morning and he got hit by a lump of clay.
