Joyce Thomas. Joyce was born in 1936 in Merseyside.
Joyce was 3 when the war broke out.
Joyce remembers Andersons shelter鈥檚 as being like Wendy houses. Andersons shelter鈥檚 were built in to the garden鈥檚 to disguise them. Joyce lived in the countryside which was not affected by the bombing until later on in the war. Everyone had to have a gas mask to be carried at all times. Joyce can remember rationing and only having limited supply鈥檚 of eggs , butter , meat, cheese, sugar, and milk. Joyce remembers as a treat having a mars bar cut up in to 7 pieces and having 1 piece each day. Her brother was evacuated to north Wales when he was 11. He spent 5 years in Wales and learnt how to speak Welsh. Joyce鈥檚 father was in the A.R.P. where he was responsible for fire watching. She was 9 when the war finished and can remember having street parties.
