My Grandfather took my Father and his brother to visit his two sisters who lived alone in a two storey house to make sure they were okay. During the visit they gave the boys a war souvenieer - a cone shaped object. My Grandfather said rather anxiously "Where did you get that?" They said during the last raid a bomb had landed in the roof but hadn't gone off - they never went to the shelters. When the elder of the two sisters went up to investigate she saw that the tip of the bomb looked like it would unscrew off and so did so. My Father says my Grandfather was rather ashen by the end of their story but he and his brother were really excited and delighted with the gift.
