It was 1943 and I was sitting outside the hanger, having got a cup of tea from the NAFFI and a ‘wad’ (a slab of cake).
An aircraft came down and shot up the runway. I saw no propeller; it was the first Jet we had ever seen. We later found out it came from an experimental station nearby were they experimenting with engines.
