Iam going back to 1940, my twin sister Rita and I are four years old. We have been evacuated to a little village called Newick in sussex. I think we went there because we had relitives already living there. Mum rented a cottage called spring cottage for 7/6 a week,it was to be the start of the best years of my young life. I cant remember too much of the first year there but i do remember starting school. The cottage where we lived was down a lane called the twiten i think that is a name for a lane in sussex, There was a village green which had a water pump and we had to get our water from it. There were two pubs in the village one called the bull the other was the oak. as well as a blacksmith bakers and a butchers. I remember the milkman coming to the cottage with our milk, he would ladle it into a jug
