My father Reginald Ormiston Parnell No K61118 was Chief Petty Officer on HMS Verity during the evacuation from Dunkirk.
Whilst our soldiers were being loaded on board HMS Verity the ship was ordered to sail immediately to the Hook of Holland to pick up the Royal family, this meant leaving our soldiers behind before the ship was fully loaded and whilst the men were still being loaded on board.
My father and all the crew of HMS Verity could never forget leaving our soldiers behind.
My father was in charge of the landing party to pick up the Royal family and take them back on board and to England which was successful.
