Duncan lived in Stratford East London and one day in summer 1944, as it was a nice day his mother asked him to cut the privett bush in the front garden. Duncan got the shears and started work, however he soon got tired of that and decided to go 100 yards up the road to see his mate. Whilst talking to his mate, they heard the distinctive sound of a doodlebug approaching. They ran out of the house to see what direction it was from just in time to see it take off the chimneys of the house where Duncan lived. They both dived for cover as the thing hit the ground and exploded, destroying everything for hundreds of yards around them. Duncan, fearing for the safety of his mother ran to where the house had been, which was now a pile of rubble, but found mother safe in the shelter in the garden. However, the house had gone, including the privett bush in the front garden. The moral is, sometimes it pays to be disobedient.
