Maise recalls collecting and reusing all the material available to then.
Her mother was a good streamstress and regularly made knickers from parachute material.
She remembers her mother's brother used to send food parcels to them from Austrailia wrapped in linen cloth. Her mother used to boil the cloth and then reuse the cloth make clothing. Maise remembers wearing a blouse with her name and address on the bottom.

In 1943 she wore a blouse and tennis skirt made from parachute material for her confirmation.
