I lived in Hayes in Middlesex, and worked at the EMI factory there. I remember one day it was bombed; the bombs landed right on top of the shelter.

There were five of us in the family. My Dad worked at Fairey Aviation, and my brother was in the Army in North Africa. He was killed in Italy on the 8th December.

I had a young sister at home. She became a GI bride. She still lives out in Minneapolis.

I remember the USAF had a base at West Drayton. The airmen used to go out on the town for their R&R. I was a right little flirt. My parents wouldn鈥檛 let me go out.

I remember one day on the street, a bomber came over. I was pushed over a wall. It was so low, I could see the pilot. You weren鈥檛 frightened by it; you got used to it.
