I was 14 when war broke out, I went to fry's chocolate factory , that was my first job. After three years I decided to leave and join the land army with my friend. I was 18 and my mum and dad saw me off by train.I went to lynton on a farm house We were up at six in the morning .We were working with a pony and cart delivering milk around the village.Villagers came out with their jugs, or they would leave them outside for us to fill up . Then we had to go back to the farm and sterilize the milk churns. After working on the farm for about 2 years , me and the girls were transfered to a hostel.Where every morning a van would take us to nearby farms. Our jobs would consist of haymaking, and with the use of ladders we would clinb trees and prune them 'you would not get me up there now'.We worked a threshing machine. We also worked in fields pulling roots of vegtebles, turnips, swedes ect.We would have a packed lunchthat the hostel would make up for us and would stop for a half an hour lunch break.
