my father frank norman lewis joined the cameronians 9th battalion 11th feb 1945 B coy.he had been wounded in Belgium but was in the front line with b coy from the 11th it must have been a very difficult time as the accout of the advance in the book The history of the cameronians. constantly says about the number of casualties.my father was with them all this time crossing the Elbe river opposite Lauenburg they then were ordered forward to Basedow it was during this action that he was killed. He is buried in Hamburg Ohlsdorf cemetery along with quite a number of cameronians. One of the surprising things about the soldiers lying with my father are the ages my father was 35 years old when he died but the people either side are aged 19 20 and 18 years of age very unusual we only hope he was a father figure for the younger people in action. It would be nice to hear from any other families or decendants of people from b company who may even be buried with my father I have a list of cameronians in that plot in Ohlsdorf cemetary.Ihave the original letter dated the 2nd of may 1945 sent to my mother sending condolences from his company comander it seems like Major G Carruthers b coy 9 Cameronians.it would be nice to hear from peaple
