My father (Freddie) was a very portly individual who worked at Jaguar Cars during the war. There was, apparently, a long straight road running through to the factory which was machine-gunned from time to time. On this occasion ‘Freddie’ was out and about when the raid came. He was of course, very frightened and dived under the nearest vehicle for safety. Once the fighter had gone, all were looking for him; he was too fat to climb out himself and his friends had to lift the car off him. He’d managed to get under but couldn’t get out!!
