1941 we were lodging in Weston Super Mare because my father was a musical director in the theatre. I was 7 when the sirens went off. We lived in a three story house across from the munitions factory in the town. The air raid started and the incendery bombs were falling through my house, through the furniture and through the chair next to me. We started to run down the stairs where the flames were coming up when an ARP (Air Raid Warden) arrived to help and get us out. We were all running through the streets, I was holding my mother's hand. People were running everywhere through the town on fire screaming for help. I was shocked and frightened. We were taken to the Winter Gardens and had to gete over a 10ft wall. We were helped up by solders and caught the other side by more soldiers. We were taken to a hotel and given blankets, tea and food and looked after until it was safe to go travel to London where we lived. The scene of people on fire is always with me and I can still see it as if it was yesterday.
