Duncan's Medals

These are some of the medals my Grandad got.

North Africa 1942-43 Clasp.
Awarded to personnel of the Royal Navy Inshore Squadrons & Merchant Navy who worked inshore between October 1942 and May 1943.

France and Germany Clasp Denoted entilement to the France & Germany Star.

Left to right should be the right precedure.
Not as in scanned picture. Peter WW2 site Helper advised this.

Atlantic Star
Africa Star
Italy star
War medal 1939-45

The Silver rose Emblems shown at the bottom are worn on the Campaign Stars, they were awarded to Royal Navy Inshore Squadrons.

A good site to check out the medals is the

Duncan also got the MID Oak Leaf which should be attached to the ribbon of the 1939-45 war Medal.
Hope fully my uncle can find this soon.

Message 1 - WW2 Medals

Posted on: 25 July 2005 by Peter - WW2 Site Helper

Dear Sheila

An interesting set of campaign medals. The medals in the photo, from left to right are the War Medal 1939-45, the Italy Star, the Atlantic Star, the 1939-45 Star (with ribbon reversed), and the Africa star. They are shown in the wrong order.

The correct Order of Precedence should be, from left to right as observed: the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star, the Africa Star, the Italy Star, and finally the War Medal 1939-45. I cannot read the two clasps at the bottom in the photo, but I suspect one is the 'France and Germany' clasp for the Atlantic Star, the bar indicating that your grandfather qualified for the France and Germany Star. The silver rose emblems shown at the bottom are worn on the Campaign Stars, they were awarded to Royal Navy Inshore Squadrons.

Regards,

Peter

Dear Peter.

I put these on my scanner. When my uncle finally brought them round.

I had to do this quickly.

It would of been nice to know what order they belong in so thankyou.

North Africa 1942-43 Clasp
Worn with the Africa star only.

France and Germany Clasp.

Thanks again from Sheila

Also sorted out uniforms from Archibald Taylor. His Sister Ella is still living 95 In Greenock.

Also Hugh Gillis you suggested this regiment.
