We got bombed three times, they used to drop mines on land and sea. We were in corporation housing in Winfield Road. We had Anderson Shelters. Food rations were better than in the First World War, but you never saw any fruit; bananas or tomatoes. There was a conservatory by us and we used to get some apples.
