This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Claire White of 大象传媒 Scotland on behalf of Sheila Polson and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

My most vivid wartime memory dates from 1943 when the Germans were bombing Stafford Street, Fraser Place and other roads just off George Street. I was aged 15 at the time and working in the Co-op on Loch Street. I worked in the Climax Department where we ordered cheques.

I came into work one day and all our windows were blown out. A bomb had fallen in the next street and all the staff had been sent home. We walked down George Street and there was rubble everywhere. In Stafford Street there was a bath caught three floors up. Someone had been bathing when the bombs hit Aberdeen.
